About Juncus compressus Jacq.
This species, Juncus compressus Jacq., reaches about 80 centimeters in height. Its rhizomes are either short-creeping or densely branched. The plant produces 1 to 3 cataphylls and 1 to 2 leaves. The leaf blade is flat to slightly channeled, ranging 5–35 cm long and 0.8–2 mm wide. Its inflorescences hold 5 to 60 flowers. Each flower has six stamens, with filaments 0.5-0.7 mm long and anthers 0.6–1 mm long. Its mature seed capsules are brown. Juncus compressus grows in calcareous wetlands, and is often found in disturbed habitats including ditches, roadsides, railroads, and canal banks.
