Juncus acuminatus Michx. is a rush species, with the common names tapertip rush, tufted rush, and sharp-fruited rush. It is native to North and Central America, occurring in and around water bodies ranging from central Canada to Honduras. This is a rhizomatous perennial herb that grows in clumps reaching up to approximately 80 centimeters in height. Its inflorescence is an open arrangement that holds many flower clusters, each containing up to 20 flowers. Each flower has pointed segments a few millimeters long, which can range in color from light reddish brown to greenish.
