About Jaumea carnosa (Less.) A.Gray

Jaumea carnosa (Less.) A.Gray is a perennial dicotyledon. It has succulent green leaves that grow on soft pinkish-green stems, giving it an appearance similar to ice plant. Its stems are weak and long. It produces yellow flowers, and its peduncle is enlarged directly below the flower head. This species spreads via an extensive rhizome system. Its natural distribution extends along the Pacific coast from British Columbia to northern Baja California, where it grows in wetlands and salt marshes. Some populations of the species are found on California’s Channel Islands.
