Jacquinia keyensis Mez, commonly known as Joewood, is a woody plant belonging to the primrose family. This species is native to the West Indies, where it occurs widely across many different islands. Its natural habitat is the coastal strand, and it grows most often on coral exposures that are regularly exposed to salt spray. Joewood is an evergreen shrub or small tree that bears thick, saponaceous leaves. It produces white flowers, with most flowering occurring during the summer and fall seasons. In the U.S. state of Florida, Jacquinia keyensis is officially listed as Threatened.
