About Ixia maculata L.
Ixia maculata L. is a species of flowering plant in the family Iridaceae, commonly called the spotted African corn lily. It is native to the Cape Provinces of South Africa, and is widely cultivated as an ornamental plant. It has also become naturalized as an introduced species in a number of regions outside its native range, including Western Australia. This is a perennial flowering plant that grows 20 to 70 centimeters tall, with an erect, unbranched stem. It produces a small number of twisting basal leaves that can grow up to 35 centimeters in length. The inflorescence is a dense, showy spike that holds up to 12 flowers. Flower color typically ranges from orange to yellow, sometimes with patches of purple or red, and spots are often present. Flower coloration varies widely among cultivated garden varieties due to selective breeding.
