About Iva microcephala Nutt.

Iva microcephala Nutt., commonly called piedmont marsh elder or small-headed marsh-elder, is a North American flowering plant species that belongs to the Asteraceae family. It is native to the southeastern United States, where it grows across Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. This species is an annual herb pollinated by wind, and it can reach heights of up to 100 cm (40 inches). Its leaves are very narrow, occasionally shaped like thread, and grow up to 6 cm (2.4 inches) long. Its small flower heads are clustered in elongated groups at the tips of branches, and each individual head holds only 5 to 8 flowers.
