It produces a whorl of 5 to 6 leaves, which are green on the upper surface and waxy with a faint whitish color on the lower surface.
Flower Characteristics
Its flowers are yellowish-green, and can grow up to 110 mm (4.3 inches) across.
Distribution in the United States
Its native range spans the Eastern United States, covering the Appalachian Mountains, the central and eastern Great Lakes region, and extends from Maine in the north south to Florida, and from Michigan in the west south to Texas.
Distribution in Canada
This orchid is also native to Ontario, Canada.
Habitat and Substrate
It grows in acidic soils in forest habitats and peat bogs.
