About Isotria verticillata (Muhl. ex Willd.) Raf.

Isotria verticillata (Muhl. ex Willd.) Raf. is a terrestrial orchid native to eastern North America that spreads via underground rhizomes. It produces a whorl of 5 to 6 leaves, which are green on the upper surface and waxy with a faint whitish color on the lower surface. Its flowers are yellowish-green, and can grow up to 110 mm (4.3 inches) across. Its native range spans the Eastern United States, covering the Appalachian Mountains, the central and eastern Great Lakes region, and extends from Maine in the north south to Florida, and from Michigan in the west south to Texas. This orchid is also native to Ontario, Canada. It grows in acidic soils in forest habitats and peat bogs.
