About Isolepis setacea (L.) R.Br.

Isolepis setacea, also known by the scientific synonym Scirpus setaceus, is a flowering plant species in the sedge family. Its common names are bristle club-rush and bristleleaf bulrush. This species is native to Eurasia and Africa, and may also be native to Australasia. It has been introduced to other regions, including parts of North America, where it exists as an introduced species. It grows in many types of moist and wet habitats, most commonly in coastal regions, and sometimes in inland areas. It is a perennial herb that forms mats of very thin, grooved stems that grow erect or arching, reaching up to around 20 centimeters in height. Its leaves sheath the bases of the stems and bear short, flat, thick blades. The plant's inflorescence is either a single solitary spikelet just a few millimeters long, or a cluster of up to three spikelets. A stiff bract that extends past the flowers accompanies these spikelets.
