About Ischnura rubilio Selys, 1876
Ischnura rubilio Selys, 1876 is a small damselfly species. Males have an apple green base body color, with black stripes on the thorax, olive green eyes with a black cap, and a yellow tail tipped with blue. The dorsal side of the male thorax is bronzed black, marked with narrow olive green antehumeral stripes; the lateral sides of the male thorax are pale olive green. Wing spots differ between the forewings and hindwings: the proximal half of each wing spot is rose-red, and the distal half is transparent. The male abdomen is rusty-yellow, with the exception of segments 8 through 10, which are entirely azure blue. A large diamond-shaped spot sits on the apical end of the dorsal side of segment 6, while segment 7 has a broad bronzed black marking covering its dorsal surface. A broad black dorsal spot is also present on segment 10. Male anal appendages are pale brown, tipped with black. Females are more robust than males and have less conspicuous markings. The female abdomen has a broad black dorsal stripe that runs along its entire length, and the sides of the female abdomen are yellowish red. This species breeds in weedy ponds, lakes, and marshes.
