About Ischnura ramburii (Selys, 1857)

Rambur's forktail, with the scientific name Ischnura ramburii (Selys, 1857), belongs to the damselfly family Coenagrionidae. Males of this species are primarily green, with blue coloration on their 8th and 9th abdominal segments. Females can be orange-red, olive green, or have coloration that matches males of the species. This is the most widespread species of Ischnura in the New World. Its range covers the Americas from the United States down to Chile, and it also occurs in Hawaii and the Antilles. Its main habitats are ponds, lakes, marshes, and slow streams that have vegetation and receive sunlight. While damselfly nymphs in general do not live in salt water, I. ramburii nymphs have been observed living in brackish water, and even in sulphurous water.
