Most males have blue eyes, a blue thorax, and a tail marked with blue rings. Females occur in multiple different colour forms, including green, brown, and black forms, as well as a form that has colouring very similar to that of males. Within Australia, Ischnura heterosticta can be found across the entire continent, including Tasmania.
