About Isachne globosa (Thunb.) Kuntze
Isachne globosa (Thunb.) Kuntze is an aquatic or semi-aquatic perennial grass that grows up to 0.7 meters tall. It has distinctive 2–2.5 mm globose spikelets, with pink stigmas. This species is native to Oman, South Asia, Southeast Asia, China, Japan, Korea, Papua New Guinea, Australia, and New Zealand. In New Zealand, it is common in the upper North Island, but becomes uncommon south of the Manawatu River. In the South Island, it is only found at Mahers Swamp on the West Coast. Isachne globosa is strictly a wetland plant, growing on swamp edges, lake margins, or in deep gullies. Across much of its range in Asia, it grows as a weed in rice paddies, where it often impacts rice yield.
