About Iris lutescens Lam.

Iris lutescens Lam., commonly known as the Crimean iris, is a rhizomatous flowering plant that belongs to the genus Iris. It is native to northeast Spain, southern France, and Italy, where it grows on rocky or sandy hillsides, or within woodlands. It reaches a maximum height of 30 cm (12 in), and has broad leaves that are approximately 2.5 cm wide. It produces yellow or violet flowers in spring, between March and April. This iris prefers full sun, slightly acidic soil, and dry conditions during its summer dormant period. It is very hardy, tolerating temperatures down to −20 °C (−4 °F) or even colder. It is cultivated as an ornamental plant for use in temperate regions, and in the United Kingdom it has received the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.
