Ipomopsis arizonica is a monocarpic herbaceous perennial plant that dies after flowering and producing seeds. It reaches a height between 10 and 30 cm. Its leaves are pinnately lobed, 3 to 5 cm long, and carry between 7 and 11 lobes. The plant produces 5 to 13 flowers arranged on a one-sided spike. Each flower is tubular, 1 to 2 centimeters long, with five corolla lobes that each grow up to one centimeter long. The flowers are bright red, and they are pollinated by hummingbirds.
