About Imshaugia aleurites (Ach.) S.L.F.Mey.

Imshaugia aleurites (Ach.) S.L.F.Mey. is a lichen species with a whitish to pale gray thallus made up of lobes 0.5โ€“1.2 mm wide. The thallus is covered in cylindrical isidia with brownish tips, with the only exception being the lobe tips. The undersurface of the thallus ranges in color from tan to whitish, and it has many short brown rhizines that act as holdfasts to attach the lichen to its substrate. Both apothecia and pycnidia are rare for this species. In terms of habitat and distribution, Imshaugia aleurites is widely distributed across Canada and the eastern United States. It grows in well-lit conifer forests, on the bark or wood of conifers. It is also distributed across Europe, where it has been recorded in 32 countries. It was added to the documented lichen flora of mainland China in 1999.
