About Idaea emarginata (Linnaeus, 1758)

Idaea emarginata, commonly known as the small scallop, is a moth species belonging to the family Geometridae. It was first formally described by Carl Linnaeus in the 10th edition of Systema Naturae, published in 1758. This species is native to Europe. Idaea emarginata has a wingspan ranging from 22 to 25 millimeters, and the length of its forewings measures between 11 and 13 millimeters. Adult moths fly at night from June to August, and can be lured to artificial light sources. Note that this stated flight season refers specifically to the British Isles; the timing may differ in other areas where the species occurs. This moth favors damp habitats, including marshy woodland, wet meadows, and marshes.
