About Icaricia shasta
Icaricia shasta, commonly called the Shasta blue, is a butterfly species belonging to the Lycaenidae family. Its distribution ranges from the northwestern United States north to southern Saskatchewan and southern Alberta. This butterfly has a wingspan that measures between 20 and 22 millimeters. Adult Shasta blue butterflies are active on the wing from June through August each year. The larvae of this species feed on four plant species: Lupinus lyalli, Astragalus spatulatus, Astragalus calycosus, and Trifolium dasphyllum.
