About Iambrix stellifer (Butler, 1877)
Iambrix stellifer, commonly known as the starry bob or Malay chestnut bob, is a butterfly species belonging to the family Hesperiidae. This species is distributed in southern Burma, Laos, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and the islands of Borneo, Sumatra, Nias, Java, Batoe, and Mentawi. It inhabits forested lowland areas. Its wingspan measures approximately 25 mm. Iambrix stellifer is very similar to Iambrix salsala. The upper side of its wings is blacker than that of salsala, because it is less covered in golden brown. The dots on its forewing are fine but distinct, arranged with one dot above the submedian area, one at the cell-end, and a third before the centre of the distal margin. On the underside of the hindwing, additional small orange spots are located behind the white spots. The larvae of Iambrix stellifer feed on bamboo species, and they are pale green with a yellow head.
