This species, scientifically named Hypsoropha hormos Hübner, 1818, has the following description. The adult wings are brown, and feature a postmedial band of white spots that meet at the inner margins, forming a shape like a white necklace. This species looks similar to the larger large necklace moth (Hypsoropha monilis), and the distribution ranges of these two species broadly overlap. In terms of distribution, the occurrence range of this species extends from Texas and Kansas in the west to Florida and New Jersey in the east.
