About Hypserpa laurina (F.Muell.) Diels
Hypserpa laurina is a small vine species with a maximum recorded stem diameter of 10 cm (3.9 in). It produces pendulous branches, and its leaves are arranged alternately, 3-veined, elliptic, and grow up to 20 cm long by 7.5 cm wide (7.9 by 3.0 in). The flowers of this species are pale yellow; male flowers have a diameter of about 5 mm (0.20 in), while female flowers have a diameter of about 3–4 mm (0.12–0.16 in). Its fruit is a red, globe-shaped drupe that measures approximately 15 mm long by 14 mm wide (0.6 by 0.6 in). This plant grows in rainforest habitat on the east coast of northern Australia, ranging from Airlie Beach in north Queensland north to Cape York Peninsula, and extending further into New Guinea. It occurs at altitudes from sea level up to around 1000 m. Flowering for Hypserpa laurina takes place from July to February, and ripe fruits are produced from November to April. The fruits are eaten by cassowaries and fruit pigeons.
