About Hypomeces pulviger (Herbst, 1795)

The adult Hypomeces pulviger beetle reaches around 14 mm (0.6 inches) in length. Its head has a broad, elongated snout, clubbed antennae, large black eyes, and chewing mouthparts. The thorax and elytra (hard wing cases) are grey, covered in a dusting of flattened, golden or greenish iridescent setae. The legless larvae of this species live underground in the soil. Hypomeces pulviger is native to southeastern Asia, with a distribution range that spans from Pakistan and India eastward to Japan, Taiwan, the Philippines, and Indonesia. These beetles inhabit forests as well as more open areas, including agricultural cropland.
