About Hypolycaena thecloides (Felder, 1860)

Hypolycaena thecloides, commonly known as the brown tit, is a small, striking butterfly belonging to the lycaenid (blues) family. It was first described by Cajetan Felder and Rudolf Felder in 1860. The upperside of this butterfly has a brown base ground colour. Its hindwing has two pairs of tails and a black-spotted orange tornal area. The underside of the wings is greyish-white, marked with orange-brown post-discal bands, and the apical area is shaded orange. This butterfly occurs in India and South-East Asia, with recorded locations including Borneo, Sumatra, Java, the Nicobars, Burma, Peninsular Malaya, Singapore, Malaya, and the Philippines.
