About Hypolycaena danis (C.Felder & R.Felder, 1865)
Hypolycaena danis, commonly known as the black and white tit or orchid flash, is a butterfly species that belongs to the family Lycaenidae. This species can be found in Maluku Province, Indonesia, the New Guinea region, and north-eastern Australia. The adult butterfly has a wingspan of approximately 30 millimeters. Its hindwings have blue-colored edges marked with black spots, and feature two tails. The underside of the wings matches the appearance of the upper side, except that the pale areas of the underside have a yellowish tint. The larvae of Hypolycaena danis feed on a range of plant species, including Vanda species, Dendrobium bigibbum, Dendrobium canaliculatum, and species from the genera Cattleya, Renanthera, Phalaenopsis, and Phalaenanthe. When the larvae enter the pupal stage, they form an off-white pupa that attaches itself to the stem of the host plant.
