About Hypochrosis hyadaria Guenée
The wingspan of male Hypochrosis hyadaria Guenée is 52 mm, while the wingspan of females is 64 mm. Its palpi are porrect, meaning they extend forward, and do not reach past the frons. The body is pale red with a purplish tinge and marked with dark stria. The frons is chestnut-colored. Forewings have an oblique antemedial line and a small annulus at the end of the cell. An oblique postmedial line is highly angled below the apex, where it encloses a greyish lunule. This line runs to the middle of the inner margin of the hindwing, but is absent from the paler costal area of the hindwing. The area between the lines on the forewing is often paler toward the costa. The ventral side of the wings is rufous or orange yellow, and the outer area of the forewing is often rufous. This species forms a complex of multiple very similar species that share nearly identical wing patterns, and can only be accurately differentiated by differences in male genitalia.
