About Hypocassida subferruginea (Schrank, 1776)
Hypocassida subferruginea reaches a body length of 4.5–6.3 millimetres, or 0.18–0.25 inches. Its body has a basic yellowish or reddish-brown colour, with a light metallic reflection, and a blackish basal margin on the pronotum. This species can be found in most European countries, the eastern Palearctic realm, the Near East, and North Africa. It primarily inhabits field margins and wetlands. The main larval host plants of Hypocassida subferruginea belong to the family Convolvulaceae, specifically field bindweed (Convolvulus arvensis) and larger bindweed (Calystegia sepium). Its larvae are polyphagous, and will also feed on common yarrow (Achillea millefolium). Adult individuals of this species are active from April through September.
