About Hypericum prolificum L.
Hypericum prolificum L. is a shrub that can reach up to 2 meters (6 feet 7 inches) in height. Its leaves range in shape from elliptic to oblanceolate, growing up to 70 mm (2.8 inches) long and 15 mm (0.59 inches) wide. Its flowerheads hold between 1 and 9 flowers, each measuring 15–30 mm (0.59–1.18 inches) across. Each flower has 5 golden yellow petals and numerous stamens. The ovary is most often divided into three sections, though some individuals may have ovaries divided into up to five parts. This species is native to central and eastern United States, as well as the Canadian province of Ontario. It grows in a variety of habitats, including riparian areas, slopes, thickets, swamp edges, and oak woodlands.
