About Hypericum humifusum L.

Hypericum humifusum L. is a low-growing, hairless perennial plant. Its thin trailing stems have two raised lines, and bear opposite pairs of pale green, elongated oval leaves that often have tiny translucent glands. Tiny black dots are present along the edges of the leaf undersides. The flowers, which measure around 1 cm (0.3 in) across, grow from the leaf axils. Each flower has five unequal-sized sepals and five yellow petals, which often have a few black dots, and are only slightly larger than the sepals. The stamens are joined at the base into bundles. The fruits it produces are dry. This species grows on heaths, dry banks, bare land at the edge of tracks, and in light woodland. It occurs in Western Europe and throughout the British Isles, where it flowers from May to September.
