About Hypericum elodes L.

Hypericum elodes L. is a greyish perennial plant that grows in mats, unlike most other species in the Hypericum genus which grow upright. Roots develop from the nodes of its creeping stems. Its opposite leaves are hairy, pale green, and rounded. Each of its flower spikes holds a small number of yellow flowers that have a resin-like scent. This species has five downy sepals, and the margins of its five petals are lined with red dots. Hypericum elodes grows in acidic conditions across marshy ground, bog pools, and pond margins. Its distribution includes Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Great Britain, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, and Spain. Within Great Britain, it is found in the northern and western parts of the country.
