About Hypericum crux-andreae (L.) Crantz
Hypericum crux-andreae, commonly known as St. Peter's-wort, is a small shrubby flowering plant in the St. John's wort family, Hypericaceae. It is native to Eastern North America. In this region, it occurs mainly in the sandy soils of the Coastal Plain, and its range extends into the Piedmont and Cumberland Plateau. H. crux-andreae is a perennial shrub that grows to a height of 4 to 10 decimeters, which is approximately 1.3 to 3.3 feet. It has simple, oppositely arranged leaves that grow 1 to 4 centimeters long. Its flowers have 4 or 5 petals, which can be yellow or pink. This species grows in wet flatwoods, and generally inhabits wet, open, sandy areas including bogs and seeps. It can occasionally be found in drier habitats.
