About Hypena eductalis Walker

Hypena eductalis Walker is a species of moth in the family Noctuidae, with common names including the red-footed snout, red-footed bomolocha moth, and alder smoke. It was first formally described by Francis Walker in 1859. This moth species is found in North America, ranging from Saskatchewan to Nova Scotia in the north, and extending south to Florida and Texas. Formerly, this species was classified in the separate genus Lomanaltes, which is now treated as a synonym of the genus Hypena. The wingspan of Hypena eductalis is approximately 25 mm. Across most of the eastern portion of this species' range, there are two generations of moths per year. The larvae of this species feed on the undersides of alder leaves.
