About Hypecoum erectum L.

Hypecoum erectum L. is an annual herb that blooms in winter. It produces numerous grey-green leaves, each attached to the stem by a petiole 1โ€“3 cm long. The leaf blade is approximately lance-shaped, 4โ€“11 cm long and less than 2.5 cm wide. Each leaf blade branches into two or three leaflets, which are linear or bristle-like and 1โ€“3 mm long. Up to 20 flowering stalks grow from the plant's central rosette, and each stalk eventually produces many flowers. The first flower on a stalk typically forms 5โ€“15 cm away from the stalk's base. Bracts are arranged in pairs, and they gradually decrease in size further up the flowering stalk. Sepals are roughly 2 mm long, oval-shaped, and persist on the plant after developing. Petals are yellow, and may sometimes have dark spots or streaks. The plant produces around 30โ€“40 blackish seeds that are rectangular in shape and approximately 1 mm long. Its flowering and fruiting period occurs from April to October. In terms of distribution and habitat, Hypecoum erectum L. occurs in Russia in Altai, Buryatia, Chita, Irkutsk, Krasnoyarsk, Tuva, and West Siberia. In China, it is found in Inner Mongolia, Xinjiang, and the North-Central and South-Central regions. It can also be found in independent Mongolia. It most commonly grows at altitudes between 400 and 1,200 m (1,300โ€“3,900 ft), on slopes, grassy areas, riversides, and sandy gravel.
