About Hymenoxys richardsonii (Hook.) Cockerell

Hymenoxys richardsonii (Hook.) Cockerell, commonly known as pingue hymenoxys or pingue rubberweed, is a North American plant species belonging to the sunflower family. It is widely distributed across the western United States and western Canada, ranging from Arizona, New Mexico, and western Texas north to Alberta and Saskatchewan. Two varieties of this species are recognized. Hymenoxys richardsonii var. floribunda (A.Gray) K.F.Parker is found in Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, and Utah. Hymenoxys richardsonii var. richardsonii occurs in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Colorado, Montana, North Dakota, Utah, and Wyoming. For the Zuni people of New Mexico, this plant has traditional medicinal uses: a poultice made from chewed root is applied to sores and rashes, and an infusion of the root is used to treat stomachache.
