About Hymenopellis radicata (Relhan) R.H.Petersen
Hymenopellis radicata has medium to large caps that are flat, grayish or yellowish brown and streaked, with a central hump. Caps measure between 2.5 and 12 centimetres (1 and 4+3⁄4 inches) wide. When moist, the cap surface is sticky or slimy. The underside of the cap has wide white gills, also called lamellae. The brittle stalk tapers at both ends; it is nearly white above ground and turns brown below the soil. The stem extends into a long, deeply rooting tap root that reaches a piece of wood. In some specimens, this structure can grow up to 25 cm in total length. The caps of this species are reportedly edible.
