About Hymenopappus scabiosaeus L'Hér.
Hymenopappus scabiosaeus L'Hér., commonly called Carolina woollywhite, is a North American flowering plant species belonging to the daisy family. This species grows in the central and southeastern United States, occurring primarily on the Great Plains and the Coastal Plain of the Southeast. Isolated populations can also be found in Illinois, Indiana, and the state of Coahuila in northern Mexico. Hymenopappus scabiosaeus is a biennial herb that can reach up to 150 cm (5 feet) in height. Each stem of the plant produces 20 to 100 flower heads. Each individual head holds 20 to 80 white disc flowers, and produces no ray flowers. Two varieties of this species are recognized. Hymenopappus scabiosaeus var. corymbosus (Torr. & A.Gray) B.L.Turner is found in Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas, and Coahuila. Hymenopappus scabiosaeus var. scabiosaeus is found in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, and South Carolina.
