Hyllus treleaveni is Africa's largest jumping spider. This species is distributed across Angola, Botswana, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Within South Africa, it has been recorded from seven provinces: Eastern Cape, Free State, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, North West and Western Cape. H. treleaveni is most commonly collected from foliage including the leaves of broadleaved shrubs, found in a variety of savannah and floodplain habitats. In South Africa, it has been observed in multiple biomes: Fynbos, Forest, Grassland, Indian Ocean Coastal Belt, Savanna and Thicket. It occurs at altitudes ranging from 10 to 1558 meters.
