The fruit bodies of Hygrophorus chrysodon (Batsch) Fr. are white, sometimes with a faint yellow tint. The caps grow to between 4 and 14 centimetres (1+1โ„2โ€“5+1โ„2 inches) across, and the gills are subdecurrent to decurrent. The stalk is 3โ€“10 cm long. The flesh is soft and white, with a taste that ranges from mild to bitter. The spore print is white. The species occurs throughout the Northern Hemisphere, growing on the ground among moss, under conifers or other hardwood trees. It is edible, but has a bland flavor.
