About Hydrobasileus brevistylus (Brauer, 1865)

Hydrobasileus brevistylus (Brauer, 1865), commonly called the water prince, is a dragonfly species belonging to the family Libellulidae. This species occurs across Southeast Asia, Indonesia, New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, and Australia. In Australia, its distribution extends from the Northern Territory through Queensland to central New South Wales. Its natural habitats are freshwater swamps, lakes, and ponds. Adults are large dragonflies, reaching a body length of 55mm and a wingspan of 100mm. Their head and thorax are marked black and yellow, while the abdomen is black with large yellow spots. This taxon has not undergone assessment for the IUCN Red List.
