Hydnophlebia chrysorhiza is a white rot fungus that infects dead deciduous trees. It forms an orange crust-shaped growth that can reach up to 5 centimetres (2 inches) wide. Species similar to Hydnophlebia chrysorhiza include H. omnivora, Ceriporia spissa, Phlebia coccineofulva, Steccherinum ochraceum, and Xenasmatella vaga. This fungus can be found in eastern North America, where it occurs from July to November.
