Scientific name: Hordeum secalinum Schreb. Hordeum secalinum, commonly called false rye barley or meadow barley (the meadow barley name is also shared with Hordeum brachyantherum), is a species of wild barley. It is native to Europe (including Madeira, Crimea, and the north Caucasus), northwest Africa, and the Levant. It has been introduced to Australia and New Zealand. It is an allotetraploid that arose from ancestors carrying the Xa and I Hordeum genomes.
