About Hoplodrina octogenaria (Goeze, 1781)

This species has the scientific name Hoplodrina octogenaria (Goeze, 1781). Adults have a wingspan of 28–34 mm. The ground colour of the wings is rich brown or tawny brown, and females are darker than males. The reniform and orbicular wing spots are darker than the overall wing ground colour, and are outlined in white. The median line, which is also darker than the ground colour, is usually wide. The species has historically been called uncertain because it is similar in appearance to and easily confused with Hoplodrina blanda and Hoplodrina ambigua. Confident, certain identification of this species requires dissection of its genitalia. Additional reference information can be found in Townsend et al.
