Homonoia riparia Lour. is a 1–3-metre-tall evergreen shrub. It has brownish bark, simple alternate leaves, and wind-pollinated monoecious flowers with sub-ovate bracts. It is a rheophyte and a mangrove species. It is native to the Andaman Islands, Assam, Bangladesh, Borneo, Cambodia, South-Central and Southeast China, the Himalaya, Hainan, India, Indonesia, Java, Laos, the Lesser Sunda Islands, Malaysia, Myanmar, New Guinea, the Nicobar Islands, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam. It grows in wet soil near river banks and flooded plains. It is used for medicine.
