Hipparchia syriaca Staudinger, 1871 is extremely similar in appearance to Hipparchia hermione. It differs in that the band on its forewing is narrower, and this band is completely absent from the anal area of the hindwing. The larvae of Hipparchia syriaca feed on plants from the Holcus genus.
