Hilaria jamesii (Torr.) Benth. was formerly classified under the name Pleuraphis jamesii. This grass species is commonly known as James' galleta. It is native to the southwestern United States. Across this region, it is widespread in scrub, woodland, grassland, and plateau habitats. It can tolerate arid environments including desert floors, and it is particularly common in the northern Mojave Desert.
