About Heuchera maxima Greene

Heuchera maxima Greene is a rhizomatous perennial herb that forms broad patches of large, rounded, multilobed green leaves. The leaves have long petioles and a fringe of hairs along their edges. This plant reaches 1 to 3 feet (30 to 91 centimeters) in height. It produces an erect inflorescence that can grow up to 60 centimeters (24 inches) tall, holding many clusters of hairy, glandular flowers. Each flower is rounded, with fleshy white or pink lobes and tiny petals that curl away from the center. Protruding stamens are tipped with large anthers. Heuchera maxima is cultivated as an ornamental plant for traditional gardens, drought-tolerant gardens, native plant gardens, and wildlife gardens. It grows best in part shade, and can be used as a groundcover in dry shade conditions under oak trees.
