About Heterotheca grandiflora Nutt.
Heterotheca grandiflora Nutt. is a species of flowering plant in the family Asteraceae, with the common names silk-grass goldenaster or telegraphweed. It is native to the southwestern United States, specifically California, Nevada, Utah, and Arizona, as well as northwestern Mexico's Baja California. It has been introduced to other regions outside its native range, including Hawaii. Even in its native range, it often grows as a roadside weed. This plant is tall, bristly, and glandular, reaching over one meter (40 inches) in height. It is densely covered in foliage, with leaves that range from hairy to spiny and have toothed or lobed edges. Leaves become smaller and more widely spaced toward the top of the stem. The upper stem holds an inflorescence of bright yellow, daisy-like flower heads. After the disc and ray florets fall off, a spherical head of achenes remains; each achene is topped with a long white pappus.
