About Heteropoda davidbowie Jäger, 2008

This species, Heteropoda davidbowie, is sexually dimorphic and ranges from medium to large in body length. Males measure 15.3–18.2 millimetres (0.60–0.72 inches) in body length, while females measure 21.3–25.3 millimetres (0.84–1.00 inches) in body length. Males have an overall reddish brown dorsum covered in short, dense hair, with distinct brightly colored hairs forming patches and lines. The body is prominently interspersed with long bright orange hairs. The posterior half of the body has a distinct red line surrounded by red hairs. Males have black pedipalps, and their legs have no distinct pattern. Females are similar in general appearance to males, but their dorsum coloration can vary from greyish to reddish brown. Females have annulated legs with dark spots on bright regions, and a prominent triangular patch on the venter between the epigastric furrow and spinnerets. Heteropoda davidbowie is distributed in West Malaysia (Cameron Highlands), Singapore, Sumatra, and possibly southern Thailand. In terms of natural history and ecology, adults are often found on tree bark. Juveniles have been found on leaf litter and leaves on shrubs.
