About Hesperilla ornata (Leech, 1814)

Hesperilla ornata, commonly called the spotted skipper or spotted sedge-skipper, is a butterfly species that belongs to the family Hesperiidae. This species occurs along the non-tropical eastern seaboard of mainland Australia, as well as in the adjacent mountain ranges. Its wingspan measures approximately 40 millimeters. The larvae of Hesperilla ornata feed on a variety of species from the Carex and Gahnia genera. These include Carex brunnea, Carex longebrachiata, Gahnia aspera, Gahnia clarkei, Gahnia erythrocarpa, Gahnia grandis, Gahnia melanocarpa, Gahnia radula, and Gahnia sieberiana.
