About Hesperia juba (Scudder, 1872)

Hesperia juba, commonly known as the Juba skipper, Yuba skipper, or jagged-border skipper, is a butterfly species belonging to the family Hesperiidae. This species is distributed in North America, ranging from British Columbia in the north, southward to southern California, and eastward to Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, and northwestern New Mexico. The wingspan of adult Hesperia juba measures 32 to 42 mm. This species has two generations per year, with adult moths active on the wing from May to June, and again from August to September. The larvae of Hesperia juba feed on Deschampsia elongata, Stipa, Bromus rubens, and Poa pratensis. Adult individuals feed on flower nectar from a variety of flowers, including rabbitbrush.
