About Herpolirion novae-zelandiae Hook.f.
Herpolirion is a genus of perennial herbs that belongs to the family Asphodelaceae, subfamily Hemerocallidoideae. The only species in this genus is Herpolirion novae-zelandiae, which is commonly called the sky lily. This species is native to New Zealand, and also to the Australian states of New South Wales, Victoria, and Tasmania. The species was first formally described in 1853 by Joseph Dalton Hooker, using specimens that William Colenso collected from plains near Taupō, located in the North Island of New Zealand. Hooker's description of the species was published in 1853 in The botany of the Antarctic voyage of H.M. discovery ships Erebus and Terror. II. Flora Novae-Zelandiae.
